Dundarave Park Playground

This small and unassuming playground is not a destination in its own right, but rather a nice bonus to a visit to Dundarave Park and Beach in West Vancouver.  Devoid of the usual plastic structures, the wooden construction of the playground blends in with the grey hued sand of Dundarave Beach.

The playground features swings -- one regular and one baby -- and a set of platforms with ladders, balance beams and other elements to offer your little one diverse gross motor fun.

The playground is part of Dundarave Park, so you have access to washrooms, picnic tables, and a moderately sized grassy area.

And of course, there’s the main attraction: Dundarave Park.  If you are there in the summer, you can let your little ones dip in the water and play in the waves.  In any season, the beach is the perfect blank canvas for letting your and your child’s imagination run wild with endless possibilities for digging tunnels, building sandcastles, and creating other works of sand.  In regular times -- not a pandemic! -- this play area also features a wading pool.

Since the park is within Dundarave Village, you have easy access to food or any other pick-me-up (coffee, anyone?) you or your kids will need to keep going in good spirits.  Public transit runs on Marine Drive and will connect you with Park Royal and beyond.  The park also has a parking lot, but it fills up quickly and you may need to park a bit farther away on a sunny summer weekend.

Last but not least: Dundarave Park is the western terminus of Centennial Seawalk, so if you and your kids still have some energy to burn after playing on the beach, check out that beautiful seaside stroll to Ambleside.
